Plot: The movie starts with an interview, where old Basant Kaur (Nirmal Rishi) publishes and encounters her autobiography claiming her life to be Virhaah & Milaap. Where, death of her father is filmed when she was too young to know the how now’s of the life. The demise scene seems natural, soft, yet indulging. Daana Paani explore the early days of 1948 when the girl is young and small, then leaps to 1962, when Hav. Mehtaab Singh (Jimmy Shergill) is given the honorable responsibility of personally informing the wife of a martyred Lance Naik (with a same name) of his wartime demise, and along the way encounters an oppressed young village woman, Basant Kaur (Simi Chahal), who got married in her childhood but staying at her natal home. The trials and tribulations of their unexpected attraction sets each on a course of life carrying repercussions for themselves, their families and a once quaint village struggling against emergence of modern times. Their fate may have determined that they would enter each other’s lives, but it seems the actions of those around them decide just how long they can stay together if it is meant to be, it will be!

Acting: All the characters in the movie justify their roles. Jimmy and Simi came out to be pivotal in the movie. It seems that people would be happy seeing Jimmy after a break time. Director Tarnvir Singh Jagpal and writer Jass Grewal shares cameo screens with the cast. Simi Chahal’s on screen improvement is seen in her every next movies. Kanika Mann also looks promising. Being a model, she gave compensating goals from her acting and justifies her role.

Technical aspects: The movie sets profound combination of background music, direction, and editing. Daana Paani came up to be Jass Grewal’s another movie to connect with the audience like ‘Rabb Da Radio’.

Negative cuts: The movie seemed to be lengthy than it should have been. If you are Jimmy Shergill’s action fan than this might not be a movie of your choice. The trailer disguises Jimmy as a rough tough ‘Fauji’ specially through his dialogue with a gun, “Panja Mintaa Che Pura Pind Biccha Dunga, Mai Picchon Aahi Karda Aayan!” but this might be the only action dialogue from the hero. Else, Jimmy is seem in a very intense and soothing role.

Positive cuts: The movie starts with pace and speed that makes it an emotional crescendo. The lifestyle and the social dilemmas of the people of the old times give the audience a ground for thoughts. The movie ends beautifully with a poignant yet sensitive scene of a mother daughter reunites. Followed by a supernatural fictional scene that shows happiness in not persistence till life..
